Namibia’s FM Begins 3-Day Official Visit to Russia to Bolster Bilateral Ties, Cooperation & Trade

Minister of International Relations and Trade, Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, on Monday embarked on an official three-day visit to the Russian Federation aimed at further strengthening its bilateral relations, cooperation and trade with Namibia.
The visit at the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, will involve a continuation of discussions between the two ministers focusing on deepening diplomatic relations and trade, as well as exchanging views on matters of mutual interest within the international arena.
A media statement by the Ministry of International Relations and Trade on Monday highlighted that Ashipala-Musavyi’s schedule will include a high-level meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Russian Federation and Co-Chair of the Namibia/Russia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, Yury Trutnev.
The vommission provides an important platform for evaluating ongoing collaborative projects and looking at fresh opportunities for industrial and economic advancement. The minister will also conduct numerous business talks to boost investment and trade flows.
“The visit underscores the sound and historic relations between Namibia and the Russian Federation, which are built on a foundation of mutual respect and shared values,” it read.
Last year, President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah met with Deputy Prime Minister Trutnev at State House to discuss areas of mutual interest, particularly energy and value addition to Namibia’s raw materials.
The statement concluded with both the Russian and Namibian governments reasserting their dedication to strengthening their collaboration and ensuring that their diplomatic and economic relations continue to thrive to benefit both countries.
