There Are No Preconditions for Escalation of Internal Political Situation in Benin Ahead of Elections: Embassy
"The country's political landscape is generally stable. Targeted PR campaigns by opposition parties barred from participating in the elections have not led to increased protest potential. Benin's military remains completely loyal to the country's leadership, and all military personnel involved in the coup attempt have been detained and are under investigation," the Russian Embassy in Benin told Sputnik.
The presence of an ECOWAS military contingent in the country further guarantees a non-violent election campaign, the embassy noted.
Parliamentary elections in Benin will be held on Sunday, three months before the presidential elections scheduled for April 12.
