Nigerian Influencer Rewriting Africa’s Storytelling

Across Nigeria’s fast-moving digital culture, a new kind of storytelling is emerging from an unexpected place: a young creator and his dog. By blending humor, empathy and social commentary, Oreoluwa Osoba, widely known as Oga Duke, has turned a simple bond with his pet into a movement reshaping how audiences see animals, mental health and identity.

His rise shows how personal stories can evolve into something bigger than entertainment. What began as playful videos of life with his dog, Duke, has grown into a platform that challenges stereotypes about African pet culture, sparks conversations on emotional well-being, and encourages creators to embrace unusual, meaningful ideas in a crowded digital space.
In a humorous conversation on Global South Pole, the Nigerian said the heart of his work is rooted in purpose rather than novelty. He explained that he adopted Duke during a difficult period in his life, and the connection helped him speak openly about mental health, animal rights, and the value of kindness. He added that the wider reception proves something important: audiences are ready for positive, surprising narratives about Africa when they come from a place of sincerity.

“Africa is an amazing continent. Nigeria is an amazing country. One thing I will tell you is that Africa is beautiful. We are very loving people, accommodating, unique in our own way, talented, and we love our pets […] Our culture is very rich, from our food to the way we love each other,” Osoba, AKA Oga Duke, expressed.
