Madagascar Outlines Six Steps to Build New Republic
The planned reforms respond to the collective will to break with past crises and build a just, stable, sustainable, and fully legitimate country, said President Michael Randrianirina.
He identified the following key areas of development necessary for the transition:
Restore trust between the state and its citizens;
Strengthen governance and transparency;
Intensify the fight against corruption;
Guarantee the republican nature of the responsibilities of the armed forces;
Draft the fundamental texts that will govern the new Republic;
Organize a constitutional referendum, followed by free and fair elections recognized by all.
