Uganda Projects Its 2025/26 Coffee Production to Surge 14.8% Due to New Plantings: Ministry
Uganda expects to produce 9.3 million 60-kilogram bags of coffee in the coming crop year, up from 8.1 million previously, Gerald Kyalo, Commissioner for the Coffee Department at the agriculture ministry, told Western media.
Kyalo attributed the expected increase to increased planting by farmers, anticipating higher exports as these new plantings come into production.
To further boost coffee production, President Museveni's government has been providing free seedlings and fertilizer to new and existing farmers, with a goal of reaching 30 million bags annually by 2030.
Ministry data indicates that Uganda earned $2.2 billion from coffee exports in the 12 months to August, a 57% increase from the previous year.
