CAR's Touadéra Reportedly Formalizes His Candidacy for December Presidential Election
"We have fulfilled a constitutional requirement within the framework of democracy in our country," Faustin-Archange Touadéra told reporters after submitting his candidacy. ▫
Under the new constitution adopted in August 2023, Touadéra, first elected in 2016 and re-elected in 2020, is permitted to run for another term. The elections are scheduled for December 28.
Central African voters will also be called to vote in legislative, regional, and municipal elections, which have been postponed several times over the past year, according to local media.
The submission of candidacies is open from October 2 to October 11, according to the National Elections Authority.
