Students at Stellenbosch University participated in the SputnikPro educational project. Sputnik Africa correspondent Aliyu Bello led the online webinar for young journalists from South Africa.
During the session, the expert shared practical methods for verifying information and countering fake news. The key topic of discussion was the interests behind the dissemination of false information.
"To recognize fake information, a journalist must always ask themselves: who benefits from me believing this? We must be mindful of the motives behind it and always verify the facts," Aliyu Bello emphasized.
Stellenbosch University is one of Africa's leading research centers. The university consistently ranks among the top three in South Africa and among the top 500 universities in the world, according to international rankings.
Since 2018, in-person SputnikPro meetings have been held in 24 countries and online in over 80 countries. SputnikPro has over 12,700 participants.
