Belgium will recognize the State of Palestine at the UN General Assembly in September, Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot confirmed.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced on July 24 that France would officially recognize the State of Palestine at the UN General Assembly in September. He said that he had sent a letter committing to do so to the leader of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas.
"Belgium will recognize Palestine at the UN session! And tough sanctions will be imposed on Israel. Any anti-Semitism or glorification of terrorism by Hamas supporters will also be strongly condemned. Belgium will recognize Palestine as part of a joint initiative by France and Saudi Arabia!" the minister said on X.
According to Russia's position, a settlement is only possible on the basis of the formula approved by the UN Security Council with the creation of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with its capital in East Jerusalem.
