On Saturday, Trump said on Truth Social that he was planning to speak by phone to Putin on May 19. He added that he would then have talks with Volodymyr Zelensky and various members of NATO. Earlier on Monday, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said that Trump or the White House will make a statement after the conversation.

A telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US leader Donald Trump has begun, Reuters reported, citing a White House official.

Before this conversation, Trump had already spoken twice by phone with Putin in 2025.
