South Africa preparing a trade proposal "to engage the US" amid tariffs, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana told reporters on the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank meetings in Washington.
While the US had announced increased tariffs on South African imports, they were put on hold, leaving the current rate at 10%, the minister recalled.
On April 2, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order that implemented reciprocal tariffs on imports from various countries. The base tariff rate was established at 10%, with higher rates applied to 57 countries based on the US trade deficit with each specific nation.
