Zambia's central bank launched a new series of banknotes and coins on Monday.
The designs celebrate the nation’s deep connection to its land, showcasing iconic flora, fauna, and awe-inspiring waterfalls that define the country’s breathtaking landscapes, Situmbeko Musokotwane, Zambia’s Minister of Finance and National Planning, highlighted at the launching event held in Lusaka.
Beyond their aesthetic appeal, the new notes and coins also symbolize Zambia’s key economic sectors, serving as a call to action for bold steps toward reigniting progress and fostering stability.
The new currency, according to Musokotwane, is more than just a medium of exchange—it is a tribute to Zambia’s unity, culture, and shared responsibility to protect its environment for future generations. The featured plants, animals, and natural wonders act as reminders of the importance of preserving the nation’s ecological treasures.
Additionally, the government emphasized its commitment to reducing reliance on cash transactions by promoting digital payment platforms.
