US entrepreneur, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk is working to revise the programs and expenses of US space agency NASA in order to direct its resources to the implementation of a human flight to Mars, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Musk is working to revise NASA programs, redistribute federal spending and appoint people loyal to him who will help him in sending people to Mars, media reported.
According to the media, Musk also tried to enlist the support of US President Donald Trump to implement these plans, convincing him that facilitating a flight to Mars would immortalize his name in history.
These ambitions could have a potentially huge impact on SpaceX, which dominates space technology and is already one of NASA's largest contractors, the publication noted.
Earlier, Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) CEO Kirill Dmitriev suggested that Musk send a joint Russia-US mission to Mars in 2029. Before that, Musk himself announced that a spacecraft with a humanoid robot Optimus would fly to Mars at the end of 2026. At the same time, Musk also stated that, in his opinion, a person would first set foot on Mars in five to seven years.
