It Is Necessary to Restore Work of Russia's Embassy in US, MFA Spokeswoman Says

Commenting on the tasks facing Darchiev, Zakharova said that the situation is extremely difficult, considering how many years the previous US administrations destroyed bilateral relations with Russia.
"Like any ambassador who is sent and approved by the president to this position, he implements Russia's foreign policy course in the host country. In this particular case, of course, the situation is extremely difficult, considering that for so many years the previous US administrations have destroyed these bilateral relations," Zakharova said.

Darchiev will need to work on resuming contacts with the American side, Zakharova added.

"Contacts also need to be resumed," Zakharova said. "In addition to everything else, it is necessary to restore the work of the embassy in the sense that it was almost blocked for many years by the previous administration."

A RIA Novosti correspondent earlier reported that Darchiev arrived at his official residence in the US capital.
Darchiev arrived in Washington in the evening of Wednesday. In his first comments to the Russian press upon arrival, he stated that a "window of opportunity" has opened in relations between Russia and the United States for normalizing interstate ties and the operation of diplomatic missions.
