Nigeria Expresses Interest in Purchasing Russian Agricultural Equipment

Agriculture is a cornerstone of Nigeria's economy, contributing approximately 24% to the country's GDP and employing around 36% of the labor force as of recent World Bank reports. Despite its significance, challenges such as outdated farming techniques, inadequate infrastructure, and climate change hinder full potential.

Several states in Nigeria have shown interest in purchasing agricultural machinery from Russia, Russian Trade Representative in Nigeria, Maxim Petrov, told a Russian media outlet.
"Thanks to the agricultural development strategy, several states in Nigeria have shown significant interest in acquiring Russian agricultural machinery and equipment. In particular, the state of Niger has submitted a request for over $110 million," he said.
According to Petrov, this topic was discussed during an online seminar for exporters organized jointly with the Russian Export Center in the format of "An Hour with the Trade Representative."

Earlier, he stated that Russia intends to assist Nigeria, which recently joined BRICS as a partner country, in developing its agriculture, oil and gas sector, and mineral resources.
Previously, Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that BRICS offers the country a unique opportunity to develop trade, investments, and socio-economic cooperation with member states.
