DRC to Launch Consultations to Form National Unity Government

At the end of February, Félix Tshisekedi, the President of the DRC, called for overcoming internal divisions to address external threats, especially in the east of the country. He also announced the formation of a national unity government.

On March 24, the Democratic Republic of the Congo will begin consultations aimed at forming a national unity government.
The consultations will involve:
The ruling parliamentary coalition, the Union Sacrée;
Opposition parties from both inside and outside parliament;
Civil society and prominent figures, including former presidential candidates, as announced by a presidential advisor on March 22.

The consultations will be based on several key principles:
The supremacy of the Constitution;
National unity;
The inviolability of borders and national sovereignty;
Respect for established institutions;
Inclusive and participatory governance.
The process is expected to be completed within a maximum of two weeks, according to Radio Okapi.
