South Africa is determined to continue building mutually beneficial relations with the US despite the expulsion of its ambassador from Washington, the South African presidency said.
"The presidency has noted the regrettable expulsion of South Africa’s Ambassador to the United States of America, Mr. Ebrahim Rasool," the South African presidency said. "The presidency urges all relevant and impacted stakeholders to maintain the established diplomatic decorum in their engagement with the matter."
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa reappointed Rassoul as South Africa's ambassador to the US in November 2024. He presented his credentials to former US President Joe Biden on January 13, having previously served in the same role from 2010 to 2015.
