A shipwreck in the western Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has killed at least 25 people, with several others missing, the news portal Actualite reported, citing local authorities.
"The main reason was overnight sailing. The vessel left port at 11pm and was unbalanced," the media quoted provincial government spokesman Alexis Mputu as saying.
Some football players from the village of Ngambomi, who were returning from the city of Mushie after a game, were among the passengers on board, the report added.
The head of the district where the shipwreck occurred, Renacle Kwatiba, reportedly said that rescuers could not arrive at the scene due to a lack of fuel.
