New York Governor Kathy Hochul has declared a state of emergency in Suffolk County due to brush fires burning on Long Island, according to a statement released on the governor’s website.
"Governor Kathy Hochul today declared a State of Emergency in Suffolk County as multiple brush fires began Saturday afternoon," the statement said.
ABC News reported that several local roads and highways were closed in the state, while a state of emergency was declared in the town of Southampton. The report also said one firefighter suffered a second-degree burn to his face and was taken to hospital.
