Ethiopia will soon launch a six-month anti-pollution campaign to raise environmental awareness under the theme "Making cleaning and greening Ethiopia a culture," the country's Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) Director General Lelise Neme told state media outlet ENA.
In addition to raising the nation's awareness of environmental issues, Lelise stressed the need for stricter enforcement of laws on plastic pollution, proper disposal of solid and hazardous waste, and compliance with environmental and social impact assessments for all projects, with legal penalties for violations.
According to the official, future projects will prioritize public health and environmental safety.
Remarkably, the EPA and ENA signed a memorandum of understanding earlier this week to strengthen the partnership for the upcoming national campaign, the authority said on X, describing the move as vital for the initiative's success.
