MOSCOW (Sputnik) - US President Donald Trump plans to radically cut the State Department, leaving it with fewer diplomats, fewer embassies and a narrower scope of activities, a Western media outlet reported, citing sources.

The report said the Trump administration intends to focus the department's work on areas such as transactional government agreements, ensuring US security and encouraging foreign investment in the United States.
It is not yet clear how many embassies will be closed, but Secretary of State Marco Rubio plans to cut a significant number of them, a source told the publication.
