US President Donald Trump is "very confident" that Washington can successfully negotiate the end of the Ukraine conflict "this week," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told journalists.
"The president, his team are very much focused on continuing negotiations with both sides of this war to end the conflict, and the president is very confident we can get it done this week," Leavitt said.
According to the press secretary, Donald Trump is "fighting to make a deal."
US National Security Advisor Mike Walz will "be working around the clock all weekend to get a deal and end this conflict with Ukraine," Leavitt also noted.
"The president said he wants the killing to stop. He wants to stop seeing innocent men die. And he wants peace, and that's his ultimate goal right now, and that's on his mind tonight," the US official emphasized.
Asked about a possible meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, she said she had "nothing to detail or read out" on the matter, but noted that the White House was continuing discussions with both sides.
