US President Donald Trump said the BRICS' attempt to "undermine the dollar" could have dire consequences for America and the world.
"You know, that would be a terrible thing for our country. It'd be bad for the world. They wanted to undermine the dollar. The Six Nations got together. They want to undermine the dollar," Trump told reporters in the White House, speaking about BRICS members.
Earlier reports said the BRICS countries discussed the possibility of expanding settlements in national currencies and creating a common currency within the bloc but no final decisions were made on the issue.
In late January, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the BRICS is not discussing the creation of a common currency, but is talking about creating new investment platforms.
BRICS is an interstate association created in 2006 by Russia, China, India, and Brazil. South Africa joined in 2011. Since the beginning of 2024, a number of other countries have joined BRICS.
