The runner-up in Mozambique's presidential race Venancio Mondlane's adviser, Dinis Tivane, announced in a statement the termination of the relationship with the PODEMOS party, which is a larger opposition party represented in Mozambique's parliament, citing a perceived betrayal of principles and values.
Despite signing an agreement with Mondlane in August, PODEMOS, which won 39 out of 250 seats in parliament in October's legislative elections, acted in bad faith by refusing to honor it and offering only 5% representation to Mondlane's movement, Tivane claimed.
Speaking to a local broadcaster last week, the opposition leader Mondlane said he was considering founding a new political party.
Mondlane, who lost October's presidential election to the ruling FRELIMO party's candidate Daniel Chapo, expressed his disagreement with the election results and called for the protests, which began on October 24 and turned to riots soon after.
