South Africa has once again demanded that Taiwan relocate its representative office from Pretoria by the end of March, Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement posted on its website on Monday.
The ministry added that the South African government reiterated its request in a letter to Taiwan's representative office in South Africa in late January, demanding that it leave the capital Pretoria by the end of March.
The South African government also sought to downgrade the status of the de facto embassy, renaming it a "trade mission" and relocating it to the commercial capital, Johannesburg.
South Africa severed formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan in 1997, aligning itself with the "One China" policy. This policy recognizes the People's Republic of China (PRC) as the sole legitimate government of China.
