Moscow's industrial exports to African countries rose by 20.8% in January-October 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for transport and industry Maxim Liksutov said, attributing this growth primarily to increases in instrument making, pharmaceuticals, and light industry.
"On the instructions of [Moscow Mayor] Sergey Sobyanin, the city is paying special attention to supporting export-oriented enterprises when entering the markets of African countries. [...] Among the promising areas that are of particular interest to exporters are South Africa, Morocco, Nigeria and Algeria," the press service of the capital's Department of Investment and Industrial Policy (DIPP) quoted Liksutov as saying.
Moscow's exports of instrument-making products to Africa increased by 16%. Pharmaceutical and medical equipment increased by 18% due to medicines, reagents, dental and respiratory equipment. Light industry grew fivefold.
Anatoly Garbuzov, the head of the DIPP, highlighted the importance of both expanding export markets and diversifying product offerings to existing partners.
With the support of the Mosprom, Moscow’s development institution provides assistance for local manufacturers of industrial, non-raw material, and non-energy products at all stages, including organizing B2B and B2G meetings with potential African buyers. Additionally, the national project International Cooperation and Export offers various forms of support to Moscow exporters, including information, financial, insurance, and logistics assistance.
