On January 29-31, a workshop was held in Niamey to discuss how to tackle the challenges posed by the connection between climate change, peace and security. The goal of the workshop was to come up with an action plan that could help solve these issues.
The workshop involved several stages:
A presentation to explain the working method;
Discussions on the most important issues;
Group meetings to create a shared vision and a roadmap for the future.
During the workshop, participants discussed a variety of topics, including:
Deeply understanding the connections between climate, peace, and security in Niger;
Analyzing the causes of conflicts related to natural resources;
Identifying sustainable management mechanisms;
Building the capacity of the people involved;
Finding ways to finance the actions.
The event was organized by the Liptako-Gourma Authority with the support of the United Nations Development Programme.
