DRC President Felix Tshisekedi told French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noel Barrot that the Congolese natural resources are looted.
"President Tshisekedi described the current situation in the country, which is characterized by the plundering of natural resources, massacres and other massive violations of human rights," the DRC presidency said in a statement.
During the meeting, which followed a series of phone calls between the Congolese president and his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, Tshisekedi reiterated his regret over Tuesday's attack on the French embassy, according to the statement.
France, a veto-wielding member of the UN Security Council, supported the DRC at the last two emergency meetings of the UN body, and the African country looks forward to further action to address the crisis in North Kivu.
Next, Barrot reportedly arrived in Rwanda on Thursday to discuss the situation in the eastern DRC with President Paul Kagame. According to the French foreign ministry, Barrot would demand in Kigali the "withdrawal of Rwandan troops" from the DR Congo, where they have allegedly been supporting the M23 rebel group.
