The John Pombe Magufuli Bridge, now 96.4% complete, is expected to open soon on Lake Victoria in Tanzania, said Abdallah Ulega, the Tanzanian Works Minister.
The bridge will significantly reduce travel time across the Kigongo-Busisi stretch from two hours to just 5-15 minutes, benefiting residents of the Lake Zone and neighboring countries.
“The completion is imminent, and we expect the bridge to be in use by the end of February or early March, as directed by President Hassan,” said Ulega, adding that an additional $6,282 was allocated to ensure a swift completion.
Named in honor of the late President John Magufuli, who initiated the project, the bridge will be the longest in East and Central Africa when completed. The project was 25% complete at the time of his passing, making it a testament to his legacy.
