The Comoros government has denied claims that President Azali Assoumani intends to hand over power to his son, Nour al-Fath, refuting what it called a "deliberately erroneous interpretation" of his January 23 speech.
Beit-Salam clarified that the president's reference to "a child" succeeding him was a common Comorian term for any citizen, not necessarily his own child.
The government recalled that a week ago, during an interview, the country's leader denied any intention of hereditary transmission of power, noting that it is the turn of a national from the island of Anjouan to lead the country.
