The African Women in Art Award (AWAA), a competition for women artists from Sub-Saharan African countries, announced the winners of the 2024 edition of the contest, the organizers unveiled.
Themed "Mother Africa" in 2024, the AWAA invited women artists to explore and celebrate the essence of the African identity, heritage, and the nurturing spirit of the continent through their creative works, organizers noted.
Selected from 36 artists across 11 Sub-Saharan African countries, eight winners, coming from Nigeria, Zambia, Namibia and Ethiopia, were categorized as Emerging Artists and Established Masters, and represent diverse cultural heritage and contemporary perspectives through their artwork. An award was also presented in the Special Prize category.

"The selection of finalists and winners is the first step in our efforts to promote talented female artists from Africa, both on the continent and globally. Our foundation will implement a program to support and promote these women throughout the year. I am certain that the AWAA Award and all of our foundation's initiatives will provide opportunities for women to create art and sustain their artistic careers," founder of the AWAA, Yanina Dubeykovskaya, stated.
