The intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in healthcare, medical education and science between Russia and Zimbabwe was signed during a meeting between Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko and Zimbabwe's Minister of Health and Child Care Douglas Mombeshora, the Russian Ministry of Health said in a statement.
"Today's signing of the cooperation agreement is a good start for further development," Murashko was quoted as saying during the meeting.
The Russian official stressed that the correct organization of the medical care system, including primary care, is of great importance in the issues of increasing life expectancy.
The two parties also pledged to continue cooperation in medical education at Russian institutions.
"There are now 91 Zimbabwean citizens studying medicine in Russia, and we see the potential for this to continue to grow," the Russian health minister noted.
