Users began publishing on X screenshots with a notification from the TikTok app. The text of the notification says that the social network will stop working on January 19 amid a ban on activities in the United States.
"A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the US. Unfortunately, that means you can't use TikTok for now. We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office. Please stay tuned!" the notification says.
A RIA Novosti correspondent also verified that the app had disappeared from the App Store.
Data from the Downdetector website, which tracks crashes and shutdowns of popular Internet resources, shows that more than 8,200 users from the United States are complaining about the app and server connectivity.
On Friday, the US Supreme Court denied TikTok a request to delay the ban on the social network in the US effective January 19, according to a court ruling seen by RIA Novosti. The company argued that the ban violated freedom of speech under the US Constitution.
The White House stated that the final decision regarding the future of the Chinese social network in the US should be made by Trump's new administration, as he takes office on January 20 and due to the timeline for the ban's implementation.
TikTok is a short-video app owned by the Chinese company ByteDance. It was released in 2018. The social network has been under intense scrutiny by US authorities, who fear that the Chinese government could demand user data or use the app to spread propaganda. The company that owns TikTok has repeatedly expressed disagreement with these concerns. TikTok has about 170 million users in the US.
