The bodies of two three-year-old boys were among those recovered from the mud in eastern Uganda, bringing the death toll from last week’s landslide to 28, media reported, citing police.
The landslide, which occurred on Wednesday on the slopes of Mount Elgon, buried several villages. Over 100 people had initially been reported missing, with 17 confirmed dead soon after the disaster. Additional bodies have since been retrieved, though dozens remain unaccounted for.
Efforts to relocate residents from disaster-prone areas have seen limited success due to poverty and lack of resources.
