Rwanda announced its first oil discovery, identifying 13 reservoirs in Lake Kivu, which borders the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Francis Kamanzi, CEO of the Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board, expressed optimism about finding more oil, citing discoveries in neighboring Uganda and the DRC.
This discovery comes after more than a decade of exploration in Lake Kivu, and despite ongoing conflict in the eastern DRC, Rwanda and the DRC continue to discuss joint exploration.
