On Sunday, Sao Tome and Principe's President Carlos Vila Nova appointed Americo D'Oliveira dos Ramos as the new prime minister, the presidency said in a statement. This is the second appointment for the same post since last week.

"The president of the republic, Carlos Vila Nova, in light of presidential decree No. 04/2025, today, January 12, appointed Americo D'Oliveira dos Ramos to the post of prime minister and head of government," read a statement issued by the presidency.

The appointment of Dos Ramos follows the resignation of former Prime Minister Ilza Amado Vaz, who was dismissed on Sunday after the president's confidence in her was undermined by the publication of lists of proposed government members before the president had read them, according to the presidential decree.

"Considering also that, in her letter of resignation, the prime minister and head of government also states that, given the context, her presence in office would not contribute to the success of public policies and to the harmonious and peaceful development of Sao Tome and Principe, which cannot be achieved without stability, good institutional cooperation and parliamentary sustainability," the president said in a decree dismissing Ilza Amado Vaz.

Vaz was appointed prime minister on Thursday after the government of Patrice Emery Trovoada was dissolved last Monday and she herself sacked, partly for prolonged absences.
"Considering that the government's actions have been marked by a notable inability to provide solutions that are both feasible and compatible with the degree of existing problems, coupled with frequent prolonged periods of absence of the prime minister and head of government from the national territory without any visible gains for the state and the Sao Tomean people. […] The XVIII constitutional government is hereby dismissed," read a decree issued last Monday.
