Uganda's new status as a BRICS partner state is viewed as a significant opportunity for economic development and technological advancement, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs John Mulimba told a Chinese media outlet.
"We have joined a platform or an association of countries that are highly industrialized. […] BRICS offers a significant opportunity to learn from their technological advancements and innovations, including the use of information and communication technology as a tool for societal transformation," he noted.
With its new status as a BRICS partner state, Uganda can attract investment from BRICS members in the country's abundant energy and mineral resources, which would also help create jobs, the senior Ugandan official emphasized.
According to Mulimba, the partnership between the countries of the bloc is a way to access alternative financing options beyond Western financial institutions that impose numerous conditions.
