South Africa and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) members are ready and willing to provide Mozambique the needed assistance to overcome its current political difficulties, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said.
“We are watching very closely what is happening in Mozambique, and obviously Mozambique is such a close neighbor to us, a very good trading partner, and a member of the Southern African Development Community," the president stated.
SADC convened a meeting, mandating its Panel of Elders to mediate between the Mozambican government and opposition leaders. Led by Tanzanian President Samia Hassan, the panel is set to report back by January 15.
