Renowned South African singer and actress Winnie Khumalo has passed away at the age of 51 following a brief illness. The news was confirmed by her family, who stated she died en route to the hospital on Tuesday.
While the specific cause of death remains undisclosed, her sister Tshepi Akeepile described a short but ultimately fatal illness.
"My sister was sick. She did have a short illness, and we really thought she was recovering. But this morning it turned out she hadn't fully recovered from her illness. She was quickly rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead," Akeepile told local media.
Known for her powerful voice and versatility, the South African singer leaves behind a rich legacy in both music and television.
She is survived by her daughter, Rethabile Khumalo (also a singer), and her son, Thabo Khumalo. Tributes have poured in on social media from fans and fellow celebrities alike, expressing shock and grief.
