The national dialogue is essential to address Ethiopia's present challenges, Gedion Timothewos said in an interview he held with the Prime Minister's Office Press Secretary Billene Seyoum.
There is a need for a constructive process where Ethiopian citizens can engage in dialogue and come to an agreement on what they want for their country, the top diplomat stated.
According to the minister, the National Dialogue Commission is intended to be an open space for people to express their concerns and aspirations for Ethiopia's future. He emphasized that this process is inclusive and encourages broad citizen participation, breaking away from the traditional approach driven by elites.
The diplomat emphasized the need for a grassroots democratic process for Ethiopia's new generation, hoping for national consensus, an inclusive nation, strong institutions, and opportunities for all. He stated Ethiopia's lack of a strong social contract contributes to current issues, which the national dialogue aims to solve, adding that sustainable peace requires addressing past grievances and fostering dialogue.
