Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo approved a visa-free travel policy for all African passport holders last week, fulfilling a promise made earlier this year, a local media outlet, Asaase News, reported.

"The government of Ghana is committed to ensuring visa-free for all Africans travelling into our country, and the process has begun to get the policy implemented this year," the Ghanaian president stated at the Africa Prosperity Dialogues on January 25, 2024.

Akufo-Addo then reportedly promised to implement the policy before the end of his presidential term on January 6, 2025. The move makes Ghana the fifth African nation to implement such a policy, along with Rwanda, Seychelles, Gambia, and Benin, and significantly expands its previous visa-on-arrival and visa-free programs.
