2024 in Recap: Russia's Vladimir Putin's Foreign Visits This Year

Vladimir Putin was re-elected for another presidential term on March 17 this year, winning a record 87.28% of the vote. Before his reelection and formal inauguration in May, the Russian leader had not made any international trips. Traditionally, dozens of countries invite Putin to visit on a state visit.

The outgoing year was rich in foreign trips of the Russian leader to friendly countries. As for his first foreign trip as a newly inaugurated head of state, Putin made a state visit to China at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping on May 16-17.
According to the Kremlin, the leaders discussed issues of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation, and a joint statement and some bilateral documents were signed following the talks. In addition, the heads of state took part in a gala evening to mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the opening of the Years of Culture of Russia and China.
As Russian President, Putin has visited China 18 times over the years.

From May 23 to 24, Putin made a working visit to Minsk, Belarus, where he met with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. The heads of state, in particular, discussed issues of strategic partnership and alliance.
On May 26–28, Putin paid a state visit to the Central Asian country of Uzbekistan. Together with the head of the republic, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Russian president visited the New Uzbekistan Park in Tashkent. They also took part in the first meeting of the Council of Regions of Russia and Uzbekistan.
On June 18–19, Vladimir Putin visited the DPRK for the first time since 2000. Following consultations with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, a treaty on a comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries was signed.
On June 19–20, Putin paid a state visit to Vietnam. Following a meeting with General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong, a number of documents on cooperation in various areas were signed, and a joint statement was made on strengthening the strategic partnership.
On July 3-4, a working visit was made to Astana, Kazakhstan. As part of the trip, Putin took part in a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and held a number of bilateral meetings.
