During an address to the population of Kananga on December 24, DRC President Felix Tshisekedi expressed his readiness to either reform or retain the country's constitution, based on the population's preference, emphasizing his role as a servant of the people.
Tshisekedi also called on citizens to be actively involved in this process, stressing that the final decision on the revision of the constitution would come directly to the sovereign people.
The president added that the country's current constitution was flawed, having been written by foreigners, and that a new constitution reflecting the DRC realities was necessary.
Felix Tshisekedi was sworn in as president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in January, after winning a contested reelection in December of last year.
