The United Nations Security Council is not a suitable forum to discuss artificial intelligence, as this emerging technology concerns the whole world, Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzia said on Thursday.
"We do not see the Security Council as the appropriate format for considering AI as an individual subject. It is a global issue," Nebenzia said during a UN Security Council meeting on AI.
Limiting discussions on AI to the 15-member body is not the right step, the diplomat said.
The ambassador pointed out that the Summit of the Future, held in New York on September 22-23, has already outlined the UN's approach to AI, and the council is not part of this program.
