The Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa of the Russian Orthodox Church provided humanitarian aid to Kenyans suffering from famine caused by severe drought.
Priest Barnabas Njaria, the Dean of the Eastern Church District, donated humanitarian aid to the residents of Voi, the largest town in Taita-Taveta County. The aid included 35 bags of flour, 150 kilograms of rice, 60 liters of cooking oil, 250 kilograms of salt and sugar, along with soap and tea.
The priest also conducted a holy-water prayer service and blessed the tent, which was set up for the services and the distribution of food. The food was then shared with the parishioners and guests.
Approximately 80% of Kenyan land is classified as arid or semi-arid, characterized by little to no rainfall. The ongoing drought in Kenya leads to widespread hunger, affecting millions of people each year.
