AI Breakthrough Unveils New Diamond Prospects in Botswana

In April, the UK company Botswana Diamonds announced that it is beginning the search for new diamond deposits using artificial intelligence (AI) in Botswana. AI is already being used for mineral exploration in African countries. For example, the American startup KoBold Metals is undertaking such efforts to discover new copper deposits in Zambia.

Botswana Diamonds PLC announced on Thursday a major milestone in mineral exploration, leveraging cutting-edge AI to identify seven previously unreported kimberlite anomalies across Botswana.
Using Planetary AI's 'Xplore' platform, the company analyzed nearly 400,000 kilometers of airborne geophysical and exploration data. Chairman John Teeling expressed enthusiasm for the discovery.
“The identification of seven, previously unreported, anomalies is a major achievement. To discover them in a few short months is a major step forward in mineral exploration,” he said.
