France, under the influence of the US, is taking an obviously disadvantageous position by destroying ties with Russia, a French writer Frederic Dufourg told Sputnik Africa.
In particular, France has put some of its companies, such as Renault-Nissan, in a difficult position.
"Russia was the second-biggest customer of Renault-Nissan. Our president, Emmanuel Macron, forced Renault, because the state is still a shareholder, to close the plant and sell it for a pittance. We are surprised. We are shooting ourselves in the foot," he explained.
According to the speaker, this rupture with Moscow goes hand in hand with an alignment with US interests, which in turn damages France's energy independence, for instance.
"If we put our aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle under American command for maneuvers... De Gaulle in Colombey les Deux Eglises [Charles de Gaulle's place of burial] must be turning over in his coffin!" he also argued.
France was forced to sell Alstom, its strategic multinational corporation specializing in power generation equipment supplies, to the US, the writer added.
"These are all spare parts for our nuclear power stations. If we want to keep getting electricity, we have to do what they demand us to do," Dufourg noted.
