On Monday, the members of Chad's Transitional National Council (TNC) approved by an overwhelming majority a resolution to promote President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno to the country's highest military rank of field marshal, the TNC said in a statement.
The motion, supported by government officials and a significant number of council members, cited Deby Itno's bravery, dedication, and commitment to restoring constitutional order, the statement noted.
While some council members questioned the timing, the majority lauded the president's actions and considered the honorary title well deserved, according to the statement.
