Indonesia to Work With Russia's Roscosmos to Build Nation's First Cosmodrome

JAKARTA (Sputnik) - Biak Island in the northeastern province of Papua was chosen for the spaceport's construction as it satisfies logistical requirements, BRIN Head of Research Organization for Aeronautics and Space Robertus Triharjanto said.

Indonesia will work together with Russian state space corporation Roscosmos to finalize plans for the construction of the Southeast Asian nation's first space launch complex, the chief of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) said on Monday.
"I hope we can move forward, establish cooperation and start constructing the cosmodrome as soon as possible," BRIN Chair Laksana Tri Handoko said in the statement.
The complex will be operated commercially by private companies and will be open to any organization that pays for using it.
