Sputnik has obtained an award in Nicaragua for global news coverage in honor of the agency's 10th anniversary. The ceremony, attended by the news agency's management, representatives of the Nicaraguan government, the educational community, diplomats, journalists, and students of specialized universities, was held on Thursday in the capital city of Managua. In total, more than 3,500 people took part in the event.
"On behalf of this governing body of Nicaraguan higher education, we want to express our recognition of the noble work that Sputnik journalists do with determination and impartiality, reporting on the successes in achieving prosperity, progress, and peace that the media subservient to imperialist interests do not report. For ten years, you have been informing the world honestly and effectively," Ramona Rodriguez, President of the National Council of Universities of Nicaragua and Chancellor of the National Autonomous University of Managua, said.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated the staff of the international news agency and radio Sputnik on its 10th anniversary in a telegram published by the Kremlin.
