Russian troops have driven Ukrainian troops out of the village of Romanovka in the western DPR, Vladimir Rogov, head of the Russian Civil Chamber's commission on sovereignty, told Sputnik on Monday.
"Good news came from the front just a couple of hours ago. Our troops drove the enemy out of Romanovka," Rogov said.
Rogov said earlier in the day that Ukrainian forces had been caught in a "fire trap" near the settlements of Ilyinka, Romanovka and Yelizavetovka, south of the hotspot city of Kurakhovo, in the western DPR.
Kurakhovo is a fiercely contested town, located 46 kilometers away from Donetsk. It is the largest settlement in the southwestern Donbas region that remains under Ukrainian control after the liberation of Ugledar. Its capture will allow Russian forces to advance further toward the western DPR border.
